Massive Ebola outbreak in 2025 and possibly in 2026 as well

A massive outbreak happened last year, and researchers are saying it will happen again in 2026.

The Ebola virus, belonging to the Ebolavirus genus, is primarily found in Africa and, as recently as 2025, has caused multiple outbreaks across the continent—particularly in West and Central Africa, including Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria, Gabon, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, and Uganda. South Africa has reported imported or isolated cases rather than sustained outbreak.

The most recent outbreak happened on September 4, 2025, in the Bulape Health Zone of Kasai Province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, when a 34-year-old pregnant woman exhibited symptoms such as high fever and vomiting. Case statistics show that a total of 64 cases were reported, and the outbreak resulted in 45 deaths. The epidemic has been declared over on December 1st.

There was also a grand impact on the nation as a whole, for example, the children who couldn’t go to school and couldn’t play with each other because Ebola is deadlier also for them, although infection rates are lower amoung children. Ebola kills a lot of infants and several children under the age of 4 who become infected. However, older children between the ages of 10 and fifteen have a better chance of survival.


The way the Ebola virus spreads is pretty similar to other African diseases. People and animals, including primates, can become infected with the virus that causes Ebola disease from an animal that carries it. Individuals can also get Ebola disease through contact with the body fluids of an infected person or contaminated objects. Even after someone recovers from Ebola disease, the virus can remain in areas of the body that are shielded from the immune system


Even though there is a vaccine for the virus, most of the African population is not vaccinated, and some researchers say that the virus could re-emerge in the very near future. This is especially concerning because it is an Orthoebolavirus genus of the Filoviridae family and is one of several viruses capable of causing Ebola virus disease (EVD) in humans. This means it is unlikely to be completely eliminated, and the virus may continue to pose a risk even with vaccination, although there is currently no evidence that it will inevitably evolve to overcome existing vaccines.
