A night to remember: The EEB1 Talent Show
« …! » go the iconic ‘Smells like Teen Spirit’ lines at the EEB1 school talent show. This signing band’s act has the audience on its feet in no time, a night not to forget.
Nerves, thrills, and waffles face our students as they practice before the show. Scared? Somewhat. Excited? Absolutely. Hair, makeup, outfits, and a few throat pastilles prepare them for what is a packed night of talents, each as exciting as the next. The preparations for the show are a success; every performer has the chance to do a test run just as it will be during the show. The stage, decorated in fresh flowers, is owned by confident students. Their hard work and practise are clearly seen, heard, and felt.
Setting up such a show requires planning and time. EEB1 students share their gratitude for the opportunity to present themselves and their groups. In fact, many decide to add QR codes and links to their band pages! PR and a song, in one.
Tonight, our school puts on about the widest range of performances yet. Distinctive styles of singing, dancing, but also Rubik’s cube solving and DJ-ing. Not to mention, all students are fiercely dedicated; matching street-art breakdancing hoodies, colour coding, and costumes! Indeed, as a band plays Red Hot Chilli Peppers: « Can’t Stop », one member takes the role of the chilli himself.
No one gets the audience in a party groove like the S3 DJ. The bars he drops makes this feel like a true concert! Parents and children jump their heads off to his mixtapes and admire the sight of him working in real time, which is projected for everyone to see.
Cheering and dancing the night away is a school-wide feeling of bonding like no other. In a short interview with three of the show’s organisers, it becomes clear that is one of their intentions. Besides that, seeing all the children enjoy and thrive outside of the classroom is another, one they see reached before their very eyes.
Indeed, this year’s talent show is more than successful. Not only do our students portray a cultural and linguistic diversity in a fantastically fun way, but they bring together our school’s community-parents, teachers, administrators, and students. This evening is all about experiencing and enjoying just the beginning of what talent our school has to offer.
