Taylor Swift’s album review
By releasing her new album, The Tortured Poets Department, Taylor Swift outdid herself. The American singer and songwriter came up with 31 original songs in under two years. This album is considered by many, the “sister” of the previous two: Folklore and Evermore, both published in 2020. The reason is that all three albums have very poetic lyrics and they show how much Swift likes to play with words and find the perfect phrasing to describe how she was feeling at a certain moment. Here you will find a list of our top 5 favorite songs of of the album that we think capture exactly Taylor Swift’s intentions.
1. Fortnight (ft. Post Malone)
This song is the first on the album and it helps capture the essence of it: love, self-discovery and loss. The melodies in Fortnight are captivating and perfectly complement the album’s lyrical themes while creating an mesmerizing listening experience. Taylor Swift is known to have great taste in song lyrics and this one is no different. She often uses highly descriptive vocabulary that gives feeling of yesteryear to the song. We think this track deserves to be on top of the list because of how relatable it is. The use of words and sound is astonishing.
2. Down bad
This one is one of our personal favorite for one simple reason: the rhythm. When we first listened to it, we couldn’t believe our ears. It’s a mix of pop and electro. The use of layered sounds gives depth to the song, and we think this one will especially be liked by the new Taylor Swift listeners as it refers to a more relatable and general situation which is feeling like everything is going wrong and falling apart
3. Daddy I love him
This five-minute-long track can seem boring at first but there are actually very few repetitions, and we can hear how the situation changes from the beginning to the end: at first the father doesn’t approve of the boyfriend but in the end everyone is happy and the dad finally approves of him. This tune is really captivating and makes us understand how love can affect our minds, which we found to be a really interesting topic . We are not sure if non-Swifties will enjoy this song as much, as it contains some references to her previous relationship, but we still think it’s worth listening to.
4.imgonnagetyouback
The title immediately shows that this song is different . It’s more contemporary than the other songs and has an alluring beat that the other songs on the album don’t have. The singer expresses her rage and sings about a way to get revenge which we think many people can relate to. This one will definitely be enjoyed by someone who has been in a previous relationship, or by younger people.
5. Who’s afraid of little old me
This one has a very unique melody as there are some parts that the singer shouts when you would least expect it. The choice of words is just impeccable and the instrumental parts fit the feeling that the song gives. This track is, the most relatable out of the five listed above because I everyone a situation where they wanted to sing this song from the top of their lungs
We could keep going on the lists of song you should listen in the TTPD album but since we are both Swifties we might end up just quoting all of them. Rest assured that if you like these songs, then you will also like the other ones from the album.
